Glastonbury 2024 headliners and line-up rumours

Madonna

One artist rumoured to be headlining the festival in 2024 is Madonna.

However, according to reports, the artist will not be performing at Glastonbury 2024.

Earlier in December, The Daily Mail reported that the star was lined up for the Sunday “legends” slot. However, talks are said to have broken down due to the cost required to recreate the set-up from Madonna’s Celebration world tour at the festival.

Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis previously fuelled rumours that Madonna could be set to headline when she revealed she was offered a "really big American artist" she hopes will headline the festival next year.

"I thought it was kind of taking shape, and then last week I just got a call, and this is what happens if you wait a little longer, because quite often we’ll be booked up from July.

"But this year we’re holding out for a little bit longer," she said in a recent episode of Annie Macmanus and Nick Grimshaw’s podcast Sidetracked.

"And then last week I got a call from [a representative of] a really big American artist saying, 'This person’s around next year,' and I was like, 'Oh my God, this is incredible. Thank God we held the slot,'" she continued.

In addition, Eavis previously shared her love for Madonna on Instagram, leading some fans to speculate that the singer could be set to perform at the Somerset event next year.

The co-organiser of Glastonbury Festival posted a photo from the artist's first performance since her return to the UK, which took place at the O2 in London on Saturday 14th October.

The caption read, "She's back! Incredible," and fans were quick to point out that Eavis’s post could be a hint that the Queen of Pop could be at Glastonbury 2024.

Bruce Springsteen

The Sun has now reported that Bruce Springsteen – who headlined the festival back in 2009 – is in talks to replace Madonna.

In September, Springsteen postponed all of his remaining 2023 shows as he recovered from peptic ulcer disease.

He then announced another UK and Ireland tour in 2024, but no performances have been scheduled on the Friday (28th June) and Sunday (30th June) of Glastonbury.

However, when responding to criticism that the festival had booked three male headliners, Eavis suggested that 2024's headliner wouldn't be another man.

She said: "This year, we did have a female headliner, and she unfortunately had to pull out... It changes all the time.

"But next year it's looking like we've got two female headliners, so fingers crossed."

Who else could headline Glastonbury 2024?

Back in July, The Sun reported that Coldplay are in "advanced talks" to headline Glastonbury for a fifth time in 2024, while Dua Lipa, Rihanna and Liam Gallagher also have some good odds as headliners.

For now, fans will have to wait and see.

Glastonbury Festival will take place from 26th until 30th June 2023 at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset.
