Orphan Peter Pan (Levi Miller) does battle with the evil pirate Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman), who's holding Neverland to ransom, in this wonderfully oddball prequel to JM Barrie's classic tale. This irreverent delight touches base with all the familiar lands and characters while drawing on a raft of movie inspirations - Moulin Rouge!, Avatar, Mad Max, Oliver! to name but a few. A dandified Jackman is hard to resist in his pompadour wig as the spitefully charismatic tyrant, bursting into choruses of the Ramones' Blitzkrieg Bop. Joe Wright directs with a mastery of magical theatricality, overcrowding the senses with a giant pantomime that's consistently inventive, constantly surprising and rollickingly entertaining.
