Pokemon Go Cliff Counters July 2021 | How to defeat Cliff this month

The line-up that the leaders can have tends to change monthly and we have you covered for what possible Pokemon Cliff could throw your way in July - so read on and be fully prepared!

Best Cliff counters for Pokemon Go in July 2021

One of the things that makes Cliff tricky is the fact that there are six potential Pokemon he could throw at you. The battle will last for three rounds, and the only one you can guarantee is the first one - he'll always start off with Seedot, but the other two rounds have multiple options each.

You need to prepared for each of the Pokemon that Cliff could send out in the second or third round of your battle, making sure you've got a decent counter in your back pocket for each of them. At a glance, then, this is what you need to know.

More like this

First round:

  • Shadow Seedot (a Grass-type Pokemon, vulnerable to Bug, Fire, Flying, Ice and Poison-type moves)

Second round:

  • Shadow Kingler (a Water-type Pokemon, weak against Grass and Electric moves)
  • Shadow Hariyama (a Fighting-type Pokemon, weak against Fairy, Flying and Psychic moves)
  • Shadow Poliwrath (a Water and Fighting-type Pokemon, weak against Fairy, Flying, Psychic, Electric and Grass moves)

Third round:

  • Shadow Tyranitar (a Rock and Dark-type Pokemon, weak against Fighting, Fairy, Ground, Bug, Steel, Water and Grass moves)
  • Shadow Torterra (a Grass and Ground-type Pokemon, weak against Ice, Fire, Flying and Bug moves)
  • Shadow Sharpedo (a Water & Dark-type Pokemon, weak against Fairy, Bug, Electric, Grass and Fighting moves)

To take this battle on, we advise loading your team up with a Charizard, a Mewtwo and a Blastoise - or an equivalent trio of Fire, Psychic and Water-type Pokemon - just make sure they are all powered up as much as they can be. Having these three means you should be ready to take on most versions of Cliff's line-up and should see you emerge victorious with all those sweet rewards.

Charizard will take out Seedot without any issue, and Mewtwo can be used against several Pokemon that Cliff may bring to the fight. Having Blastoise in the mix gives you a good chance of winning if you end up being pitted against Tyrantitar in the final round.

It's also worth noting that you can re-pick your team after losing to Cliff once, by opting for a rematch at the same location, which should mean that Cliff makes the same picks again - but you'll know who you're up against, so you can make your own picks more wisely. Best Seedot counters in Pokemon Go

You have some choices here as Seedot can be taken down with Bug, Fire, Flying, Ice and Poison moves.

Most players who've been playing Pokemon Go for a while will probably have several of these types of Pokemon in their arsenal. So if you've got a Charizard that you've been training up since the early days of the game, now would be a great time to send it into battle.

Charizard's attacks, such as Fire Spin and Blast Burn, should make short work of Seedot, but any Ice, Rock, Steel or Electric ones should do the job just fine as long as they are relatively powerful.

Best Kingler counters in Pokemon Go

Grass and Electric moves are what you will want to aim for to take down Kingler.

The recently added legendary Thundurus is one of the best for this, but Electivire is also a good shout if you don't have one yet as it is one of the more powerful, non-legendary, Pokemon currently in the game.

Best Hariyama counters in Pokemon Go

To take down Hariyama you will want to have a Pokemon ready that uses Fairy, Flying and Psychic moves

Got a Mewtwo powered up and ready to go? Well, this is a good time to test it out as it is great at taking down Hariyama. You can also use Moltres, Alakazam, Metagross or Gardevoir if you want to get the job done quickly.

Best Poliwrath counters in Pokemon Go

Fairy, Flying, Psychic, Electric and Grass-type moves are all ones that Poliwrath is not a fan of as they can do some serious damage - so pick one of those!

Mewtwo is the choice of Pokemon again here to make quick work of this scrap, but again, there are other Pokemon to choose from if you don't have one as Alakazam, Moltres, Metagross and Raikou will also put up a good fight.

Best Tyranitar counters in Pokemon Go

With Tyranitar being weak against Fighting, Fairy, Ground, Bug, Steel, Water and Grass-type attacks, again you should have plenty to choose from here. The OG Water-type king, Blastoise, should also do the trick against Tyranitar. Or, of course, any powerful Water-type that you've got prepared.

Best Torterra counters in Pokemon Go

Torterra can be battled best using Ice, Fire, Flying and Bug-type Pokemon which means you have several choices to pick from as to who you bring into battle.

Any of the following should see you emerge from this battle in one piece: Mamoswine, Weavile, Abomasnow, Mewtwo or Weavile. So, have one of those in your arsenal, and make sure that it is powered up and a good IV, and you should not have too much trouble winning the battle.

Best Sharpedo counters in Pokemon Go

Sharpedo is a Water & Dark-type Pokemon that is vulnerable to Fairy, Bug, Electric, Grass and Fighting-type moves which means you have a wide range of Pokemon you can choose from.

Thundurus is the best of the bunch here but if you have a hard as nails Machamp in your arsenal then this would be a good fight to bring it out for.
